Attached is the obituary posted on The Daily Review newspaper website for Cousin Dale N. White. He was the son of Charles and Marcia (Churchill) White. Dale White lived at Laurel Lake in the cottage originally owned by his parents. His father was a partner in building Laurel Lake, Columbia Cross Roads, PA. many years ago and I can tell stories of my family visits to the Whites.
When we were young and living on the farm in Snedekerville, after the haying was done or when we had a lull in work on the farm, we would walk to Laurel lake to swim at the cousins cottage. You have to really love swimming to hike to the lake. It was “just over the hill” from our farm through the neighbors farms. It was probably a couple of miles.
Because Dale was much younger than me, I didn’t know him as well as his brother, Lynn. In school they usually seated us alphabetically, I was always next to Lynn. The advantage of growing up with cousins so close-by we knew each other pretty well. After high school Lynn and I both went to College in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Lynn at Wilkes and I was in nursing school at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and Kings College.
When I went to work for Pharmaceutical companies, I got to travel, a fair amount, to cities all over the United States. I took advantage of work visits to towns where I could catch up with cousins. I went to Seattle a few times and met Dale’s oldest brother, Lance, for dinner. My first visit was about 28 years after graduation from high school and I had not seen him in all those years. When he walked into my hotel, I knew him instantly. I think he might have grown another 6-12 inches, but looked the same. What fun.
I met Lance’s son, Colin for dinner in NYC about 20+ years ago. Now I find out he is living in Michigan, is a nurse in med-surg ICU at U. of Michigan and has two children. I guess a lot can happen in that many years.
Working in genealogy, I keep finding more relatives to visit. Who will be next.
