Hershey Family Reunion Newsletter

The Hershey family reunion is being held, August 28th in Paradise, at the usual spot.  I have put together a newsletter to keep the family updated on the information I receive.  It has been emailed to those folks who have been kind enough to share their email.  For all the rest, you are missing out.  You can reach me through the contact section of my website to get on the email list.

  1. I am John Brubaker President of Brubaker Families of America. Each year we hold a family reunion the first Sunday of August in Rohrerstown, PA on land that was part of the original 1000 acre land patient purchased by Christian Hershey and Hans Brubaker 1n 1710 and title taken in 1717. Early reunions were joint Brubaker / Hershey reunions, we are planning a large celebration in 2017 and would invite all Hersheys to join us.

    1. I am a direct descendant of Christian Hershey who came to America in 1709. I am interested in your 2016/2017 reunion. Please send details. Thank you.

      1. You are welcome to come. It is the 4th Sunday in August and usually at the Paradise Park in Paradise, PA. This is mostly the descendants of Frank and Lydia (Buckwalter) Hershey. It starts with Lunch at 1:00 pm. Watch my website for the dates and email me. I’m the unofficial historian for this branch, but also a descendant of the other Christian Hershey.

      2. Don:
I was searching for information on the Brubaker Reunion in 2016/2017 and saw your message from 2014 asking for more information.

Were you able to get any more information as requested? I can follow up on that if you did not receive anything.

        1. Sharon, This is the reply from John. We are only distantly related to the Brubakers and do not attend this reunion. “I am John Brubaker President of Brubaker Families of America. 3. Don, as a follow up I thought I would send you a link from our Brubaker Family Association website for you to send your contact information. The person who would (or should) have replied to you has had some health challenges, hence I am following up to be sure that someone gave you an opportunity to connect with us as per your message.

    2. I know my great grandmother was Angie Faye Hershey 4/12/1897. She died of TB in 1928 or so. I can’t seem to find much info on her. I believe her father was John Hershey. Any info would be great.

      1. I’ve looked in Ancestry and in the Henry Hershey book and find no Angie Faye Hershey. If she died in PA there should be a death certificate on line with Ancestry, but I didn’t find one. Sorry I can’t be of more help.

  2. I’d like any information you can give me that might help in connecting my branch of the Brubaker family with yours.

    Thanks,
    John Brubaker

    1. John,
I’m not sure how you would be related to my husband’s family, but in the Henry Hershey book of 1929 there are many Brubakers married to Hersheys

      1. Hi, Deb:

In reference to what John Brubaker mentioned previously (from his Sept 2011 note)…if you look on pg 9 of the 1989 reprinting of Henry Hershey’s book there is a reference to Christian Hershey. I don’t know beyond a shadow of a doubt, but I have a high degree of certainty that this is the Christian Hershey who received the 1000 acre land patent with our ancestor Hans Brubaker.

Referring to his May 2012 note, I might contact him to see where the connection is. My wife is a Hershey; her family is in the Hershey Book. Her ancestors are Jacob Hershey (1742 – 1825) and Andrew Hershey (1702 – 1792).

If you are so inclined, check out our new website http://www.brubakerfamilies.org. It is a work in progress; probably about 70% complete.

  3. Please add me to your e-mail site. I would love to come to the Brubaker reunion! I am related to the Brubakers through Anna Brubaker 1759-1836 who married Christian Becker 1759-1837. Their daughter, Anna Becker married George Synder. Their daughter, Elizabeth married Ephraim Kauffman Share. (my great-great-grandfather). I recently visited the Synder family house and the Share (Scherr) mills and family homes. What an amazing family!! I love the Mennonite connection. My grandfather, Walter Share attended the Church of the Brethren.

  4. Please add my name to the Brubaker e-mail list. I would love to come to the family reunion. I am related to the Brubakers through Anna Brubaker Becker who married George Synder. Their daughter, Elizabeth, married Ephraim Kauffman Share, my great-great grandfather. I have visited the Synder house and the Share (Scherr) houses and mills in the Lancaster area. What a treat! My grandfather, Walter Share was a member of the Church of the Brethren. I love my Mennonite roots!

    1. Alice,
This is the Hershey family newsletter and not Brubaker. They are only related through marriage of some of the Brubaker’s to Hershey’s and have their own reunion. Sorry I can’t help, but if you get in touch with the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society in Lancaster, PA they may be able to head you in the right direction.

      1. Hi, Deb:

Thanks for forwarding that message from Alice Share Burin. I will pass it on to the proper individuals within the Brubaker Family Association.

I’m not sure that I recall receiving a message about the August 28th Hershey Family reunion. Similar to Alice’s request, I would like to be placed on the Hershey contact list as my wife is a Hershey. I don’t recall if I asked to be placed on the list or not in the past.

I’m sure that I and my Hershey in-laws would enjoy attending a future reunion.

        Thanks!

        –Doug Brubaker

    2. Alice, as a follow up I thought I would send you a link from our Brubaker Family Association website for you to send your contact information. The person who would (or should) have replied to you has had some health challenges, hence I am following up to be sure that someone gave you an opportunity to connect with us as per your message. If someone already did reach out to you, my apologies for the duplication here.

  5. Actually, correction on my part…I at least get automatic email messages when there is a post placed here, so I automatically would have received Alice’s message.

Thanks again, in advance, though, for placing me on your mailing list for future Hershey reunions.

    –Doug

  6. No other supporting info, such as mothers name, where she might have died and is buried? Is Angie’s given name Angela, and is Hershey a maiden or married name? I guess we can assume maiden as her father was John. No other info on him?

  7. I can’t find her either. Her sister married my Grandfather’s brother. So two different Wheelock’s were married to Hershey’s. Angie or Angela died when my grandmother was 5 but she had to stay in hospital until she was 8. I believed she died in Arizona. My grandfather moved her because it was believe the dryer air was better for her.

  8. I believe John Hershey was her father. She died in 1925 ish I think in Arizona. Her sister was married to a Wheelock also. I met them before my grandmother Ruth died.Clifford M. Wheelock married Viola after Angie died.

  9. Hello! My husband and I are planning a driving trip this May to visit my Hershey ancestors. I descend directly from The Andrew Hershey lineage from 1719 (noted in Scott Funk Hershey’s book, #5; pg. 71). I would love to see the Lancaster land that was owned by those of that time – including any burial sites that are noted in the Mennonite records. I have scoped out those who rest near Hagerstown, MD, where most of my more recent forefathers are buried, yet I hoped to find some links around the Lancaster area. My grandfather Orville Scott Hershey was son of Winfield Scott Hershey, son of John Jefferson; son of Jacob; s. Rev. John B., s. of Andrew, s. of Hans-Christian of Appenzell.. There seems to be much confusion separating out the two original Christians, both Bishops in the Mennonite church, yet the years of arrival are different by 10 years. It is the later arrivals to whom I am related as outlined in the Hershey book. If anyone knows specifically of areas around Lancaster that were owned by one or more forebearers, I would be decidedly thrilled! I am grateful for all and any insights. THANK YOU!!! Elisabeth Hershey Hollis

    1. I would start with a visit to the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society. They have plenty of information about the Hershey’s and could point you to Hershey Mennonite, Mellinger Menninite, Paradise Mennonite cemeteries and more where many were buried. There are also properties in Lancaster County that you could see that were in the family. LancasterHistory.org is another wonderful place to check for sites to visit. This is the Lancaster County Historical Society. If you go on their websites, you will probably find what you are looking for.

  10. I am related to the Hersheys through my paternal grandmother who was a Hershey and related to Milton Hershey, as I understand.
Does anyone know which immigrant was Milton Hershey’s immigrant ancestor?
Is there a well recognized treatise on this Hershey lineage?

    1. Milton Hershey descends from Christian Hershey 1719-1782 to Isaac Hershey 1773-1831 to Jacob Frantz Hershey 1802-1877 to Henry Hershey 1829-1904 and Milton Snavely Hershey 1857-1942. They are having a 300th Anniversary of the Hershey’s this year. Check this website for more information. http://www.christianhershey.doodlekit.com/
